(Faraway My Yorkshire)

(The Yorkshire Dales)

(Redmire Moor, Wensleydale)

(Redmire)

On this side of Bolton Castle, the east side of the castle, there is a small but enchanting village of Redmire. And on the north of the village, in the heights between Wensleydale and Swaledale, Redmire Moor spreads, which is covered with heather as far as the eye can reach. When I was there, only the cold wind was blowing and a couple of blackface sheep were feeding in the grass among heather.
There were no dry stone walls on the top of the hills. The sheep seemed to become wild, so I wondered who owned them. But there was no need to worry about it. I heard that they could be distinguished with the colours of dye marked on their backs, which shows the owner.
Not only I like landscapes of slopes along the dales but also I love the ones of barren and bkeak moors on the top of hills where noting exists except heather.
On Redmire Moor a cold wind was blowing, and for the half or one hour that I stayed there, no car passed along the road leading to Swaledale. The wind was certainly cold and the moor was peaceful, like heaven.
The sheep, devoted themselves to feeding in the grass, sometimes raised their heads and baaed. English sheep go "baa", but Japanese sheep or goats do not. They bleat with a sound of [me:].
The grass land where the sheep grazed was as smooth as a carpet and expressing the surface of land exactly.
Talking of livestock, I saw Highland cattle in the Dales. I had never seen such lovely cattle before. They looked like huge soft toys.
